Naming a dog can be a fun and creative process.
While making some personalized bowls or pet urns I always wonder about all the unique names and stories behind them. That's why some while ago I made a giveaway with a simple rule - write about how you chose your dog's name. I really loved reading all the unique names and stories about them. So let me show you some of my favorites:
“Before I even got a dog, I wrote down a list of names I thought my future pup could have. But when we met her, we understood that no name can fit her better than Maru - which means perfect. Because she is perfect for us. ❤️”
“I had limited time to give Bruno his name (because the owner of his mom had brought puppies to get passports and basically called to ask for the name at that moment)..so I quickly googled Italian names (since I liked Italy and always wanted to go 😄) and that is how he got his name. Years after Bruno went with us on a road trip through Italy and had a chance to eat dog gelato in Vieste, so the name was fitting.”
“Freya got her name from being born on a Friday, which is Freya's day in Norse mythology. It must be said that her name suits her completely - strong, loving, warlike. A true young lady!”
TIPS AND TRICKS
When thinking of a dog name, here are some tips that might help:
- Consider your dog's personality: Think about your dog's breed, size, and personality traits. Do they have strong and bold personalities, or are they more relaxed and laid-back? This can help you come up with a name that suits their unique personality.
- Think about the breed: Some names may be more fitting for certain breeds. For example, a husky might suit a name like "Koda" or "Luna," while a bulldog might be better suited to a name like "Tank" or "Bulldozer.
- Look for inspiration: You can find inspiration for dog names from a variety of sources, such as movies, TV shows, books, or even your favorite foods or places. You could also consider names that reflect your dog's physical characteristics or breed.
- Keep it simple and easy to pronounce: Choose a name that is simple and easy to say, both for you and your dog. Short names are usually easier to remember and can be more effective in training your dog.
- Avoid confusing names: Avoid names that sound too similar to common commands such as "sit" or "stay." This could cause confusion for your dog and make training more difficult.
- Test the name: Before deciding on a name, try saying it out loud several times to see if it rolls off your tongue easily. You can also test the name by calling your dog and seeing if they respond to it.
Remember, choosing a dog name is a personal choice, and the most important thing is to choose a name that you and your dog both love.
WHAT ABOUT PEPE?
Before we got Pepe I wanted another name for our family dog, but her parent owners already gave to all of their puppies names. But I can't lie - Pepe suits Pepe very well. Little and joyful, full of energy. That's how my dear Pepe is.
